Understanding Core Web Vitals and Why They Matter for SEO
Google evaluates websites on more than keywords and backlinks. A set of metrics called Core Web Vitals measures how a page actually feels to use, and it plays a role in search rankings.
The three metrics
Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures how long it takes for the main content to become visible.
Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures how quickly a page responds when someone clicks, taps, or types.
Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures how much content unexpectedly jumps around while loading.
Why this matters beyond rankings
These three metrics correlate directly with whether visitors stay on your site or leave, regardless of search rankings.
How to check your own scores
Google’s free PageSpeed Insights tool reports all three metrics for any URL.
Building with these metrics in mind from the start
Sites that score well usually didn’t retrofit their way there — they were built with lightweight code and stable layouts from the beginning. It’s the standard every WebHoga build is measured against before it ships.
